Documentary - Iconically Ill

Iconically Ill follows comedian Laura Lyons as she tries to reclaim her life after becoming disabled and chronically ill due to Covid. As someone who was fully independent and able bodied living in NYC, Laura’s life has completely turned upside down. We have access to her daily life and big events such as hearing about lung transplant options, going back to NYC for the first time in four years, and her going through her nurse’s journal of what actually happened to her while she was in a coma.

Laura, a proficient and sharp comedian, uses her devastating situation as a source of humor for her TikToks which has amassed millions of views and her podcast which focuses on guests with chronic illness and disabilities. Her fighter spirit shows what it’s like to get kicked down by life and get back up. We see her vulnerabilities as she opens her storage unit of her belongings from NYC that her parents packed up while she was paralyzed and in a coma. We see her grapple with what actually happened to her, as she has been trying to avoid major moments for the past four years with a severe PTSD diagnosis.
